Bang For The $$$
Bang For The $$$
Ok, what would be the best suspension mod for the money ??... BASICALLY, IF there were one thing (or a specific section) that was MORE IMPORTANT THAT ANOTHER, for suspension, what is it ??... I need to start upgrading suspension, however.. until next fall I only have so much money.. I'm eventually going to get a torque arm, subframe connectors, rear control arms, panhard bars, front and rear sway bars, 4-link ( i think that what they are called
), a performance bushing kit, probably eibach springs... etc... I have BONE STOCK suspension right now, but in a few weeks... I'm dropping a 325 HP small block, with a T-5, AND I'VE BEEN TOLD that I need to start upgrading... ANY SUGGESTIONS ??? THANKS SO SO MUCH, what will help the most WITH speed (traction, acceleration).. WHAT will help the most with ROAD-HUGGIN' and handling >??? you guys are a blessing:hail: :hail: :hail:

Subframe connectors first. A 4 link would be a new rear suspension set-up(custom fabbing and quite a few dollars). Don't waste your money on rear control arms and a panhard bar if you plan to switch to a 4-link set-up--maybe are thinking of something else?
After the subframe Connectors, the order really doesn't matter that much--keep in mind that it all works together. If you drop it, you will probably want some LCA relocation brackets. You also might want to add a wonder bar and strut tower brace.

These cars should have come with subframe connectors from the factory. That goes without saying, if you haven't got those, you need them.
As far as modifications, by far the biggest bang for the $$$ things that I've ever done to my suspension were LCA lowering brackets for acceleration, and the "wonderbar" for handling and overall steering imrovement. Those 2 things together I think were less than $100.
The "wonderbar" goes across the front end of the car, and pushes up on everything, so your headlights look bigger.
Seriously, it connects the front ends of the "frame" portion of the unibody where the steering box and the idler arm mount, which greatly improves the steering. It's the rod that's between the sway bar and the power steering cooler, that's bolted under the sway bar bolts.

FWIW - An often overlooked bang for the $$ suspension mod is to install poly sway bar bushings and end links front and rear. This really tightens up steering response. It was the first suspension mod that I did way back when, is a no-brainer install and doesn't cost much.

TIRES! I have seen thousands of cars in my life that people have built (I happen to judge a major car show every year here in So. Calif) that people built the suspension to the hill but then just put crappy budget performance tires on it- they just try to find a tire that looks good.
Now take a car with a stock suspension and put some great rubber on it and very good roadrace shocks- and nothing else, and it will outperform most modified cars with sh*t tires.
In conclusion, don't try to save $200 bucks on your next tire purchase- you'll thank me later for the results you'll get.
