Where to find replacment Calipers(cheap).

Where to find replacment Calipers(cheap).

I have rear aluminum calipers and regular fronts. The auto parts store wants 115$ per caliper. Is this the cheapest price? Seems high to me. Is there a rebuild kit available? The reason i want to replace them is that the bleeders are very tight and i dont want to risk breaking them or ruining the piston seals by heating it. Suggestions?

Yes, there is a rebuild kit. I'm not sure what the prices are for the rebuilt calipers. Rebuild kits are cheap. Rebuild it yourself provided the caliper is not damaged in some way (bent) from an accident or whatever.

Rebuild the rears and replace the fronts. The fronts are only about $15 each, but as you know the rears are not cheap. It only takes about 20-30 minutes to rebuild the rears and they should work as new when you're done. Rebuild kits run about $11 (Advance Auto)

I bought my rear PBR calipers from autozone. They were a rebuilt loaded pair with everything but the backing plate and cables, ready to bolt on for ~120 plus 90 for core. They were from ARI, part # 13-608081. They are listed under "brake caliper - rear loaded pair" or something like that. Best deal I found when I was looking calipers for my rear disk upgrade.

Is there anything specific to ask for when asking for the rebuild kit? I want to rebuild my rear PBR's as well.

The fronts aren't worth the time to rebuild, just get "new" rebuilt calipers. As far as the kits for the rears go, get the kits for your calipers.

If you can't get the bleeder screws loose, rebuilding seems a moot point, since you won't be able to bleed the calipers. Try soaking the bleeders for a couple of days with PB Blaster. Use a tight fitting 6 point wrench and give the wrench a sharp rap with a hammer. If it still won't loosen, soak some more and put a small pair of vice grips on the bleeder screw and hit it again. If you get the bleeder out, buy a new bleeder and carefuly coat the the threads with an anti-seize before reinstalling. If it breaks, then you either drill it out (a dicey proposition) or buy rebuilt calipers.

The reason i want to rebuild the caliper to get the bleeder out is that once the piston and seals are out i can heat the caliper to remove the bleeder. If the caliper is loaded i dont want to risk ruining the seals and piston etc.

Try soaking the bleeder area daily with WD-40 or Kroil and let them set for a few days. That ought to help.
