In search of 1.8 60's ;)
I am looking for ideas on how to get my camaro to hook up well in street trip (intact sway bars, drag radials, stock style suspension)
I want at least mid 1.8's at the track and low 1.9's on the street..
So far I have installed stiffer LCA's and reloc bkts. with polyeurthane bushings and added drag radials.
I would guess my 60's being around 2.0 to 2.1
1. What is the proper way of prepping bfg drag radials to hook up? psi? burnouts?
2. Do panhard bars do anything for straightline? I can't see it, but everyone recommends it...
3. I hear two different theories on rear spring setup. Some tell me softer springs are better, others tell me the stiffer the rear springs the better...
I am considering the following in order to improve my traction.
2200 stall lockup 'verter
stock replacement rear springs/shocks
stiffer panhard bar
and perhaps a stiffer torque arm with a stiffer mounting setup.
Is it worth it to lengthen my torque arm to increase leverage on the frame?
If any of you are able to cut good 60' times, pls tell me what you have done to your car.
Peace out

when you say street trim how street do you mean?
i would say, your on the right track...
i would recomend fairly stiff rear springs, soft front springs, 50/50 shocks rear, 70/30 front. unbolting the front sway bar at the track should help wieght transfer.
no there are some setups that can be "streetable" but are basicly a race setup that will do ok on the street/freeway but isn't optimal for that, you can also setup it up so that it is very streetable/drivable ok handling, and have it to fairly well hooking up.
it really depends on where you want to compromise.

Thanks guys, keep the info comin
By 'street trim' I mean the same setup I would use to drive my car around town daily. so like I said, intact sway bars, radial tires, stock TA style suspension. Basically I want to be able to pretty much do a mid 1.8 60' launch at any stoplight if I... ahem.. felt the need to
I have a friend in a syclone I wish to surprise.
How well are the spohn cars hooking up? anyone with spohn setup that do well?

i should have new 60 foot times coming soon with these mods.
and my car is a daily driver.
spohn sfc's, lca's, relocation brackets, torque arm, panhard bar.
eibach prokit, no front sway bar (i cant even tell its off), as far as struts and shocks, i was also thinking 70/30's and 50/50's in the rear, also goinig to put in an airbag in the passengers rear spring.
i am hoping for 1.6's with bfg kwd's, thats wth stock converter and 3.23 gears.

Here's what I used to get a 1.78 60'
14 year old stock suspension
14 year old stock springs
6 year old stock looking shocks
Kumho ECSTA 255/50R16 (only $87ea.)
I run the tires at 21 psi and do only a short burnout to get the rocks and such off the tires. The trick seems to be 'rolling' into the throttle instead of just mashing down on it.

1.85 on nittos at 15psi.
good burn out, old springs.
Keep in mind I drive a stick, so a 1.85 isn't that slow. It would never hook trying to leave on the juice(551rwtq), so I always left on motor. As stated before, it takes practice and rolling into the trottle.

hmmm... hopefully I can pull off some impressive numbers like that. I will have to play around with different things to see what works.
:rocker:

Im pullin 1.72 short times with spohn relo brackets and lca's with the stock torque arm, stock springs, shocks, rear sway bar. I say get a big converter and let her eat, works for me.
