Adjusting parking brake

Hi everyone. I wandered over here from IROCZone looking for some help. I own an 86 IROC with 4 wheel disc brakes. I read online a while ago about the recall on the parking brakes and checked into whether or not my car was done. I called GM Canada and because my car originally came from the US they had no record of it. So I called GM in Detroit. I might as well have asked for the winning loto numbers.
I know the recall hasn't been done because my parking brake does exactly what the write up in the recall talks about
Anyway..I read somewhere online how to adjust it and replace the spring that apparently is part of the problem. I can't find the article now and was wondering if anyone here has been down this road already?

You're kinda touching on 2 different subjects: dealing with the failure-prone calipers and adjusting the e-brake.

If your car is an automatic, they won't fix your calipers at all, they only will fix the manual cars since they can roll. Do a search on "recall kit" and you'll find the info you are looking for.

To adjust the parking brake, there is a bolt assembly in the trans tunnel you can adjust. Turn the nut so it moves up the long bolt toward the front of the car and it will take up slack in the cables and tighten them up. Pic below of what it looks like. You can see the fresh exposed metal from where I adjusted mine after the rear swap.

Thanks for the reply eb. My car is a standard. I was talking to my local service manager about the recalls. I e-mailed GM Canada about them and they told me to contact my local dealer. I'm going to kick and scream until they do the brake and seat belt recall.
The service manager told me he would point me in the right direction!

You don't have to worry about the rear brake recall. It is a disc brake caliper issue!
The seat belt recall has to do with the red button in the buckle. They forgot to put whatever it is they put in the plastic to keep the sun, heat from affecting them. The buckles that are bad have pink brittle buttons.
If you have these or ones that don't work..I'd take a trip to your dealership and get them to run your vin# to check for open recalls.
