Looking for parts made for the IROC (International Race of Champions)
Anyone know of any companies that made parts for 3rd gens durring the era of the IROC races (hardcore roadracing stuff) that still makes parts for 3rd gens?
I've found almost everything I need in the stock car world, but still looking for some misc parts (lexan hatch, etc). I'm estimating the curb weight of my 89 RS to be 3000 pounds when I'm done with the current weight reduction plans. I'm looking to go even lighter than that and I'd like to see what was avalable to the racers that competed in the International Race of Champions. I'm interested in looking at body, suspension, and steering parts they used to roadrace. If anyone has any info, please let me know. Thanks!!

Ironic you said."I've found almost everything I need in the stock car world". You need to go to the "other" stock car world.
Being they were full framed chassis with front clip based on a second gen camaro.
Most of the stuff you'll find is still being used in circle track "in one sort or another".
HTH and good luck.

I think his name is "banjo" williams who built the cars some where down in the carolina's. They share nothing in common with our cars. The best way to describe the IROC cars is a hybrid between a nascar and an SCCA Trans Am series car. There's about as much similarity between those cars and ours as the #8 Chevrolet nascar and my neighbor's new monte carlo. Strictly appearance.

Sunoco#6: Thanks for the info. I'm looking for more mags covering circle track racing.
(BR)G-Machine: Sorry I shouldnt have said that. I actually dont want to use any fiberglass paneling on my car. Reason being it will crack if there is an impact. Right now the plan is to stick with the sheetmetal parts but cut out any supports. So the piece will be alot lighter, but it will also be alot weaker (could bent it with your hands). But the weakness is OK because the car will have a full cage. If it dosnt work out then we will be coverting to fibeglass (and my wallet will be screaming at me).
drain89: I'm building my car to be a hybrid between a street car, a dirt track car, and a SCCA Trans Am style car. The car will be street legal, but will not be used for daily driving. The main use of the car will be track only, drifting on a roadracing course. The reason I consider it a hybrid is because the suspension and drivetrain will be roadrace oriented (like the SCCA cars), but the chassis setup will be dirt track oriented (made to handle impacts), and the car will look stock (Street). We're building a chassis cage that extends from the radiator support to the trunk (including a 12 pt cage in the interior). Building the car to handle impacts (like they do for dirt track racing) because the sport I use the car for involves high speed sliding on pavement (drifting) and the possibility of hitting walls is very real.
I know what you're talking about though, I've thought about converting to a dirt nose and dirt fenders (welding the front support on), but I dont want to go that far because I want the car to pass as a street car. I want the panels to look stock (some might be fiberglass, but right now we're trying sheetmetal with no supports). I am really interested in converting all the windows to lexan for weight reduction purposes. The doors weigh in at around 100 pounds each and the rear hatch is almost 90 pounds. Thats over 275 pounds I can drop from the car. We're planning on using fiberglass doors and lexan windows, but for the hatch we cant find a lexan piece that will work. The rear hatch is a compound curve so we dont even know if its possible. I saw a picture of some old school IROC races and most of the cars in the race had a lexan rear hatch that looked like it matched my car. I'm assuming they're using the same body shell as me (just modified with extensive welding) so I was hoping to come across some of the parts they use during the IROC races. I'm looking for mainly weight reduction body pieces.
So the cars they used in the IROC races weren't based off of 3rd gen F-body chassis? Tell me it ain't so ...
