Alright, here is the problem. I have a 1991 Camaro RS with a 3.1 liter engine... ..(yeah I know it is a small engine)...The car sounds like it is falling apart almost. I don't know what is causing the rattling noise, but I want to find out so I can fix it. I talked to my neighbor who has a third-gen Z28...He has had it since he was a teen....He said it might be my U-Joints....I am not too sure about it though. It almost sounds like something is hitting the spare tire....I am not sure....Do you think it could be my exhaust that is hitting the top of the car?...I didn't want to check it out tonight because i was driving it for a little to get home and the car was still hot. The rattling happens only when I hit higher speeds too. This is what makes me wonder what it is....Please help me....

 

how is your suspension? i had a muffler hanger break on me and only noticed it going over bumps so i doubt its that. maybe it could be ur driveshaft? im not too sure. waitin for some1 else to jump in and help...

 

I also had an exhaust hanger break on mine. I replaced that a long time ago though. It isn't my suspension either. I am starting to lean more towards my driveshaft. It is only when I am start going about 5mph it starts to rattle....Also, the higher speeds I go up to it starts getting louder. If anyone can help me figure out what it is, please reply...I also would like to know if it is a mechanically easy or hard project to do..?

Hard to say without knowing exactly what the rattling sounds like; but, I once had a rattling coming from the rear right or spare tire area---turned out that my spare tire had just come loose! Tightened it back up and the rattling was gone. That is where I would check first. Then underneath, muffler hanger etc.
