how to change brake shoes?

Does it take any special tools? I have done pads on disc brakes before but drums seem more complicated. Any tips would be appreciated.

hey man,

actually an article i can really really help out with...wooo woo...

iight changing stuff in the brake drums can be somewhat of a pain in the ***...trust me lol....what I reccomend is change your drum cylenders and the shoes at the same time...alot of the time those lil drums go bad after changing brake shoes on older cars, aka 3rd gens or older....I think mine were like 24 each (i got a little better than basic ones form auto zone) and there is a tool that will make the job SOOO SOOO SOOO much easier! im talking like a peice of pie...Its a crylender pusher/puller....and it is well worth the i think 14$ that is costs at Harbor Freight Tools...otherwise you need a set of those hooked and pointed screwdrivers and more than likely a friend...

annother tip is get a sheet of paper or a digital camera and take pictures of the drum after ytou pop the outter cover off so that you can have a reference for where all the springs and retainers go...do this on both sides...I didnt and it added about an hour to the job lenght...

if you need anythign else drop me an email... solarofthesix@hotmail.com...I jsut got finished doign a full break job.... cylenders, calipers, pads, shoes, lines, and master cylender...so I can give ya any support ya need..,.
