Put brake ducts on your thirgen

For all you guys who run open track events or maybe even autocross and have trouble with brake fade, you may want to try some brake ducts. I have swapped my front brakes to LS1s now but I ran stock front brakes for years at open track events. With good fresh brake fluid and aggressive high friction brake pads you can get slowed down reasonably well considering how undersized the stock rotors are. The problem is the heat will destroy the rors and pads in no time. I wore out a set of new Hawk blue pads and rotors in 100 miles at the track.

These brake ducts tripled my pad and rotor life. The best thing is you dont' have to spend huge wads of cash to do it. Simply pay a visit to your local hardware store and buy some 3" clothes dryer duct and some plastic cable ties and you're all set. Your brakes will look like a Winston Cup or TransAm car with the twin brake ducts feeding in the cool air.

Here's what they look like.

Keep them as far from the tires as possible so they don't get crushed when you turn the steering wheel. ALso do not turn the wheel to full lock if you can avoid it. If you do your hoses will be smashed. You'll also want to remove the dust shield from the steering nuckle to allow more air flow. The make sure the hoses blow air to the hub so the air flows thru the rotor vents.

Here's how they look with the wheel off.

If you drive your car on the street too and your state requires a safety inspection, this setup will sure suprise the guy at the inspection shop. Of course, you should probably reinstall your turn signals before you go for the inspection.

Why not use that big open area where the grill used to be to get the cool air??

I removed my fog lights and ran the ducts from there.

My two ideas how to get cold air to brakes:
behind the grill (not working if you route your engine cai there) or somekind of scoop under the nose? What you think. Also different style wheels allow different rate of airflow to go through braek disks.

Or you can order some good ones from here: www.pegasusautoracing.com

Check in their online catalog on page 110.

formul8,
I may order some NACA ducts like you have but so far there has been no need since the hoses work fine by themself. I occasionally drive my car on the street so this setup makes it easy to pull the hoses back and reinstall the turn signals.

Flynlow, Jukka,
I used to have my hoses under the nose but they are easily torn up if you go off track or approach a sharp uphill grade like a driveway. I was alos crushing them often when I drove my car onto my trailer. I tried mounting scoops beside the air dam that pushes air up into the radiator. But this did not get enough air to the brakes and I cooked a set of rotors.
You could pull air from the grill opening but my setup allows a straighter path to the rotors. I was also concerned about the ducts blocking some air to my radiator and oil cooler.
