t-top bar

ive seen threads where people parting out third gens will remove the t-top bar just to see what itd look like as a targa top. this got me thinking..is this bar just bolted in place? if it is....think that welding it in place would give anymore structural support?

well u have this piece in the picture (held in with screws mostly), and then right under that would be the actual body of the whole shell of the car.

the top plate as pictured is screwed in.

The rest is spot welded. Its gives the car some support, but when I removed mine for the targa conversion Its no weaker then my vert is. Then again I do have SFC's

Id say with the SFC's with out the T bar its = to what my vert is like.

You either have to drill the spot welds out or cut the bar off.

If this piece is spot welded in, you've got some problems...

There should only be about 8 screws holding this in, plus the glue GM used to tack it to the actual chassis. I have removed several of these and have yet to see one spot welded in from the factory.

To remove and/or replace this piece, you will also have to replace the weatherstripping for the t-tops. It is next to impossible to remove the weatherstripping intact.

I am talking about the chassis support bar that is part of the body not the black bar that was pictured earlier here.

The TOP plate pictured above is screwd down.

The UNDERSIDE Support is spot welded in. The white X's are the spot welds that were drilled out for my Targa conversion.

outside sanding for new paint. DOnt mid the 85 fron GFX. I had to get a new bumper cover and came across a used one In great shape free. Just need to put my 92 gfx back on.
