Brakes are dead

My brakes were brakes dead all of a sudden. I went to my car today on xmas morning and theres some stopping but if I come to a complete stop they go down to the floor. If I press it even harder when hitting the floor its a tiny bit better. Still not completly stopping me. It also makes a noise what sounds like inside near the pedal. The brake light is on, and one of the rubber things in the canister was filled with fluid. It is also loose in the rear on top and a little low of fluid...

Does this sound like someone had cut the lines. Cuz it hasnt happened anytime before today. Some ******* smashed my headlight so it is very possible. Also when I had a broken down monte ss someone stole a battery, ignition coil, and starter. The exact things I had someone put in it.

Im thinking its this guy next door with a 81ish camaro. If I find out anything his car gonna get ****ed up...

Plz help.

Nate

There are a number of things that could of happened. First check the front calipers and brake hoses for fluid leakage. Then go to the rear and do the same for the rear calipers/hoses, or if it's a drum rear, check to see if you have brake fluid leaking on the tire running down from inside the drum.

If you have the ability to do so, pull the wheels and take a good look at the calipers, if it's drum rear pop the drums off and take a look there also.

If you have no fluid leakage anywhere ( get under the car and check all brake lines, both hard and flexible) and the pads/shoes are in good condition, then it could possibly be a bad master cylinder.

Just don't throw parts at it, diagnose the problem first before spending money.

Well some ppl on chat said they think its a master cylinder.

When I first first start it if i press it it does right to the floor. Also it sounds like air is coming out. The brake light is on. And it makes a noise sometimes when I stomp the brake pedal even harder. Im gonna have it looked at tommorow hopefully....

one of the hard lines could have rusted out and burst - had that happen twice on my car...

update. It was the fuel line. It was ripped and looked worn? anyway we replaced the line, then bled the system. Now it works even better then before.:lala:
