Sticking caliper slide bolts

1989 IROC. Has anybody found a decent, LONG LASTING, lube for the caliper slide bolts?

I've used the little packs of brake grease from AutoZone, motor oil, wheel bearing grease, rear axle lube....whatever I use, it dries up and gets sticky. I know when my caliper slide bolts are stuck is when the car pulls to one side or the other when braking.

For the time being, I'm using WD-40 on the slide bolts. It only lasts about a week but doesn't turn into cement like the other stuff. It sucks, though, having to spray the bolts so often just so the brakes will stop without pulling. Any ideas?

had the same problem. NAPA has some stuff that comes in a tube specifically for brake hardware lubrication. Can't remember what it's called off hand but I'll try and find out tomorrow. Also besides lubing the caliper bolts try removing the 2 round metal pieces that the bolt slides through that are stuck in the caliper and held in place with rubber gromets. remove them and lube the rubber gromets and replace metal round piece. There are 2 per caliper. found this helped a lot more than just lubing the caliper bolt since most of the sliding that the caliper does is between the round pieces and rubber gromets. Calipers don't slide on the bolts themselves. Also if you have cheap pads that dust a lot you will have to constantly lube these.

I've used Anti-Seize lube for sliding caliper bolts on my cars for years and it seemd to work great. I learned the trick from a friend who was a mechanic with a small shop business. It's a silver metallic lubricant in a bottle - maybe 10 ounces - with a brush attached to the cap.

My only advice is this - be very careful and precise with the application of this stuff to brake parts - it is very anti-friction and I assume would ruin the frictional qualities of brake pads if it were to get on them. I usually apply a thin film of the stuff to things I want lubed and am really careful about not leaving globs of it that could fall on to the rotor or drum. Incidentally, it works great for the brake shoe contact points with the backing plate in drum brakes too.

Ask around at the local parts places and you should find some - can't go wrong.

Any lube should work fine for the caliper bolts. But like mentioned above don't leave globs of the stuff to fall on your rotors. Remember your brakes get hot and lube tends to thin out when heated. The #1 cause of sticking calipers is brake dust sticking to the lube causeing it to cake up and dry out faster. The cheaper the pads the more likley your calipers are going to begin to stick sooner.

and if your brakes squeak after you put disc brake quiet on the back, use the white lithium on the front of the pads as well....

JUST KIDDING!!!!!
