third to fourth differences

what were the differences in the frames in the changeover, if any please specify. I did a search and the front suspension changed among other things but more specifically did the frame change at all?
If anyone is familiar with both gens fill me in please!
Thanx guys

i guess soccrplayrgtp meant the unibody construction and/or floorpan.

yeah sorry guys I dont have a f-body.... I have a unibody but im doing research to find out if Im gonn frame my car or not. I was thinking not but then I remember the old Mustang unibodies; TWISTED!! So basectly I wanted to know weather the third gen frame changed anything to the fourth gen frame.

Is there a full frame underneath an f-body?
And if theres not this entire thread and my other one are useless other than finding out there isnt

there is unibody. Body itself and two subfames which are welded to body = unibody. No full frame at all, amazing isn't it?!

nope... every Fbody from the first ones to roll off the lines in 67 to the last ones to come off in 02 were unibody cars.

from a suspension mounting standpoint, the rear suspension is identical.
the actual stamping of the floorpan of course is totally diffrent.

SHOOT... anyone have an idea for me then? I'm thinking about custom making a frame to fit my car with:
-fourth gen front suspension and strut towers,
-V8 motor RWD
-and turbo Grand National 3.42 Posi 8.5 10 bolt (needs more than a unibody structure )

But id rrather save myself some time and labor hours molding that suff onto a frame.....

Now im on the search for a full frame i guess.....

Let me know WHATEVER you are thinking

depending how much street use it'd see i'd consider a aftermarket k member and use the 4th gen rack lot less work and expense than makeing 4th edn front end parts work. buy some SFCs and a cage and/or back half the car instead of a full frame, you'll be way ahead

what are SFC's exactly? Yeah the rear of the car will have to be caged eitherway because of the frame that needs to go 11" up into my wheelwells for the springs and stuff, so itll be caged in the rear and all through the truck and around my fuel cell.

well the plan was to use the strut towers and crossmember and then mold it into my fenders and front frame bars.

Hmmm

Hmmm

SFCs = subframe connectors

see, we have 2 "framerail" LIKE beams up front in the engine compartment... really they're stamped metal, but they're strong...
the front subframe is on that...

the rear "subframe" is right by where the rear suspension bolts on.....

subframe connectors are tubes or bars that connect the two... making a pesudo full frame car..... our cars flex alot and connecting the two points with a soild bar stiffens them up.

I'd look into a '82-'86 Buick frame such as the Regal. This is a 2-door mid-size car with a full frame & coil sprung rear.

The 1st & 2nd gen f-body's used a front sub-frame that is very much the same as the front of a full frame. It is bolted to the uni-body portion with 4 large bolts. This sub-frame was shared with the Nova's and Ventura's. Can use that along with either grafting a rear portion on or using an aftermarket kit for the rear section (dependent upon your application).

This sub-frame mounts the front suspension, engine, transmission, and crossmember.

RBob.
