tie rod and ball joint...

I am getting this NASTY shaking around 45MPH....I'm thinking it's the ball joint. I've also heard it could be the tie rod end....so...I've decided to do them both at the same time. How hard are these to do? How long might it take? Is there a FAQ on it...makes it a ton easier. I'll be getting autozone parts....will these be ok for a stock car and how long will they last? Thanks.

A bad ball joint makes a nasty creaking noise, but shouldn't cause too much shaking. My guess would be that the tie rod ends are out of adjustment or need replacing.

Don't know if this applies to you but I've had creaking also before, but that was from the coil spring not seated correctly

ball joints and tie rod ends casue shimmy more than vibrations. you migth want to do a little investigating before you go swapping parts. i wouldn't use front end parts from auto zone if they were free. look in your manual for instructions on the r&r.
