camber/ caster adjustments
i wanted to set my frontend up like this:
but, i couldnt.
i run out of adjustment room JUST before i get there.
im not autocrossing until the end of summer, so im not TOO worried about it right this second, but what is everyone doing to be able to adjust it out?
only thing i can think of is to elongate the holes in the fender and strut plate.
i noticed spohns site says somthing about 1/4" more adjustment with the aftermarket upper strut mounts.... so im guessing this may just be a common problem.. is it?
whats everyone running for settings on their car right now?
Code:
Caster Camber Toe Total
(deg) (deg) (in)
L R L R
+5 +5.5 -1 -1 3/32 i run out of adjustment room JUST before i get there.

Yup that's about it, I'm going to assume you could only get 4° or so of caster, that being typical....
You may experience tire rubbing on the outer lip of the fender right in front of the door, under certain conditions. My car is set up much like that, and does that.

is your car lowered?
also which adjustment did you run out of room on. i can't run as much camber as i wish with my HMS mounts, since they sit 2" higher than stock. but i can run a full 5* of caster. i have found at stock or close to stock height it is hard to get very much neg. camber. if you car is lowered, that should open up a more room for camber.

i ran out of both adjustments. the camber is maxed but i got them both to be -.9 and thats pretty close to what i wanted...
the caster is at 4.8* on both sides. (all this is with just me sitting in the car)
i guess what im kinda upset about is the fact that i could have loosend the bolts, smacked it down and back with a hammer, and id have damn near the same alignment i have now.
the real reason i went in was the toe... i redid the steering so the toe was only set to what i could do with a measuring tape.. i was surprisingly close though.
it does handle a lil better, but im just a lil concerned about being able to set it later, when i goto autoX.
is everyone else elongating the mounting holes too?

and the upper bearings in mine arnt worn yet, so i just cant justify the cost for somthing like that... no matter how sweet they look.
perhaps once i have everything together and i paint the car (including engine compartment) but thats awhile from now.
