metal tab on rear pads

I just installed some new pads on the rear disc brakes and the new pads had a little tab on one side.

Does this go on the inside (toward axle) or outside (wheel side) pad position?

the 'squealer tab' is positioned so it'll contact the rotor when your pads are worn... and it should only install properly on one side of your caliper, as far as I know.

Sorry if thats a useless reply, Im just not sure I entirely get your question

I guess the reason I'm wondering, is I just turned rear rotors and installed new pads on 89 TA. When I brake I get grinding and a clunk noise for each rotation of the wheel. (One clunk per revolution). I'm going to take my wheels off and look at the metal tab and also the ebrake (it isn't working now).
