WARD, help Please-E brake problem posted 3-08-04
Hi Ward,
Thank you for your post in assisting me about my E brake problem. I am following through with GM on the Campaigns also, here is what they said so far. The local dealer here is real good to me...I work with a Car rental co., and we do business with them daily, the local service manager and owner, really went to bat for me, gave me copies of the campaigns, he contacted his area manager who has to make a decision, and he called me to let me know that the campaigns were over, and because my vin no. did not show up on their computer, it most likely had been done. I am also in contact with Chevy main 800 no. customer service, he will call me back monday and talk to me about it, and I will ask him if he can help me anyway for these reasons...the brakes and seat belt retractors are safety items, that I feel were probably NOT done to my car for these reasons...one, it only has 62k miles, and neither work, so if they fixed the problem once, would it not work now?, and also the campaign bulletin says that when it is completed, that they are suppose to put a sticker that has camp. no., and dealer who performed the work on the top of radiator cover. Neither are on my cover, and it is all very original under the hood, a local radiator man verified that with me. He said it could have fallen off,but I doubt it. Anyway, will continue to try with the management, and if no avail, will get it in writing from them, and may pursue it with the NHTSA. If none of this works, will try your suggestion for fix...but there is something I did not understand in your directions. My shaft on the backside of the caliper has the bolt, but it has a nut which holds the lever on, and then another nut on the shaft up against the body of the caliper. I am assuming that it holds the piston in the caliper, and also fits the hex opening in the lever. I have not tried taking it apart, but am not sure where you put the washer????between the nut against the body, and the lever?, or inside the nut against the body of the caliper?? You also said to put the wrench on the hex??? My lever is cut out with a hex shape so it slides down over the nut nearest the body of the caliper. I basically understand what you are saying, just need clarification. Appreciate your help very much. Thanks, Dennis

p.s. I tried emailing you, but they come right back, possibly a full box?
