i have an 87 formula firebird and i am looking into getting 17x7 and 17x8 torq thrust 2's but american racing said they do not recommend it what is the deal? Do i need a lil different offset in the back? i did have 17x9.5 zr1 wheels on my car all the way around with 275-40's in the back and had no problem. They said the back wheels might not clear.

 

8 all around would be a much better deal. 7 is really narrow. if anything try running a 9 or 9.5 in the rear. tires shouldn't be that much more and it will help.

as far as offset and backspacing issues just look to see what others are running with the size you want. try searching as it helps...
