Squeaking noise

okay I have this squeak when Im driving, like rolling in the parking lot or down the street.... It sounds like its coming from front wheel area...sometimes it squeaks, sometimes it doesnt and it usually stops while brakes are applied. I don't think its the pad wear sensors though. I will check them out later today though. Any ideas? Its embarassing lol

Could be that the pads are worn a bit so that when the caliper releases them they are left free to rattle about.

If they don't need replacing, get some anti-squeek stuff to put behind them.

Ok I took the front wheels off and checked the brakes out. The rotors have little grooves in them. I dont know if that would help cause the noise. I think the pads are worn too. When I am measuring them do I measure the whole thing or just the first section? hopefully you get what im saying.

when you measure the thickness fo your rotor, you want to measure the thinnest part of it (the deepest grove). More than likely if your rotors are getting grooved, you waited to long to change your pads, so they need to be replaced too. Also, when reinstalling everything, make sure to lube the slide bolts very well so you don't get caliper bind and extra squeks.

it depends on the pad. Some pads have groves down the center that when viewed from above you can tell how much you have left, other have metal squekers on the trailing end that semi contact the rotor when pad gets to thin (will be louder in reverse), and others have metal inserts in the actual pad that shred your rotor when they get too thin. The squek especially when you turn sounds like worn pads due to non lubrication of the calipers on the slide. Sure way to check your pads man, put the front up on stands, take off front wheels, turn the steering wheel all teh way to the left, and look through the top of the caliper with a flashlight. If it looks like you have less that 5 mm of pad left, definitly time to replace. If the outer pad is wore more than the inner, that is due to miss lubrication of the slides.
Then turn the wheel to the right and due the same inspect on the other side.
