need answer fast:gta tire size
hey guys, I have the gold honeycomb gta wheels and I have the stock 245/50/16's on there now-their bald and I'm going to get new tires-but what I wanted to do is lower the profile to about 245/45/16-would that fit or would I have to go down to a 235/45/16-not sure if that size exists but I need an answer fast! thanks in advance!

Ummm...all three tire sizes are the same width. They are all 245mm wide so they will all "fit". The first number listed is the width(245mm). The next number is the height. Height is listed is the percentage compared to the width.
For example a 245/50/16 is 245mm wide and 122.5mm high with a 16 inch opening for the rim. (245mm multiplied by 50 percent or .5) The next size you listed (245/45/16) is still 245mm wide but 45 percent of 245 is 110.25mm. So your tire hieght is olny 110.25mm high compared to the first tire that was 122.50mm high. The second tire is a lower profile because the sidewall is not as high but they are all the same width. If you go with a lower profile you are going to have even more wheelwell gap. Almost need to step up to a 17 or 18 to make it look right.

91fbirdgta:- Razor is completley correct in the points he is making.
May I ask why you are thinking of changing to the 245/45/16?
I'm currently running 245/45/16's on my GTA wheels at the front and 245/50/16's at the rear. The car came with them on and they can stay there till they need replaced. The reason some guys run those up front is that they are more readily available in the UK and Europe than the 50 profile rubber and usually less expensive also.
I have asked around in the past with some racing guys regarding any other benefits of having the lower profile at the front but the same width. They suggested that the lower stiffer sidewall may benefit handling and in particular turn-in response.
The problem is that you really do notice the difference in the size of the gap/space between the tyre and the wheelwell/arch.
Hope that helps, let us know what you decide.
