lowering car???

lowering car???

is it true if i wanted to go and lower my car for a real cheap price i could just take the old spring out and cut them each with a sawz all each like 2 inches that way you wouldnt take the tensil strength out of them by heating them up and cutting them.

If you cut the springs off by 2 inchs youll get alot more than a two inch drop. If you cut them your gonna create alot of heat no matter how you look at it. Cutting your springs can be done somewhat succesfully but most people wont recomend doing it. Theres also more to lowering a car than just the springs. Youll need an alingnment, adjustable panhard rod, trailing arm relocation brakets, and probably some other stuff im forgetting.

There is far more to worry about then the heat associated with cutting your springs. By cutting them you drastically increase the spring rate to a level that the struts cannot control. You will have severe ocsilation on some of the smoothest roads. You ride will be harsh, your car will bounce, and you will have potentially unsafe handeling characteristics.

ok thanx for the info you guys changed my mind i think id rather spend the cash and buy the lowing springs.

Let me start out by saying, I am in favor of lowering springs, however...... Last summer after pulling so much weight out of the front of my car, the front end was noticiably higher than stock. As a quick and dirty fix, I cut half a coil off the springs.....to my suprise, the car's handling didn't change very much and I got the front end to drop about 1 1/2 inches. So, it can be done, however new springs would be the correct way to do it and as soon as I decide how much of a drop I can live with, I will be getting some myself.
