disc brake question

hey i just swapped my stock one wheel peel drum brake rear for a posi borg warner with discs...i think my brakes are messed up... and it was sitting for a year i think... pretty rusty when i got it... how can i tell if the rear brakes are messed up? the car brakes fine.... but i think one of the calipers is loose?? i dont understand how this works... if i do need new calipers what do you guys recommend? and why is one caliper on the front of the rotor and and on the opposite side its in the back of the rotor??

You have the pre 89 9 bolt anytime you buy a junk yard rear i say rebuild the brakes. Just buy new loaded calipers or save your self some money and switch to pbr's like i am. If not u will want to later.

how can i tell if the rear brakes are messed up?
Raise the rear of the car, put it in gear, and see if the rear wheels stop when you press the brake pedal.

if i do need new calipers what do you guys recommend?
Swap over to PBR rear brakes like Frk mentioned. Those old style rear calipers are prone to not work right..

why is one caliper on the front of the rotor and and on the opposite side its in the back of the rotor??
Just the way the General designed it.

PBR? what is that and how hard is the swap? how much cash also? is there any way to get the calipers both on the back of the rotor? also my e-brake only goes up like 3 clicks and it doesnt work at all is this related to the calipers being seized or broke? thanx alot for the help you guys rock

Yep, those are what you want. Baer offers an upgrade to those for $800 but you can do it for $600 in a kit. If your e-brake doesn't work, odds are your calipers are seized up. If you have to replace anything, might as well upgrade to these while you're at it...and the PBRs put both calipers toward the rear.

Mine doesnt work cause there isnt any adjustment in my ebrake and it is really tight. Well i dunno if that why it doesnt work but the calipers suck they were new remans.

Did you try to free it up a bit by using the adjuster in the trans tunnel to loosen it up?

Sorry, my mistake. You have a '90 and those don't have the adjuster down there, just the bar to hold the lines...can't adjust that.

Ever heard of the free travel adjustment on the PBRs?
