need tire advice

Hey all; decided to move this after jmd cried (very rudely also) about it being in the wrong forum.

I just got a nice set of 92 Z28 rims to replace the ones I have on my car. Trouble is, the tires I have now are getting weather cracked. So, I figured that if I'm gonna do a set of new tires, then I'm going to get some nice ones to replace the ones the previous owner put on.

Here's my dilemma: I notice a lot of guys have 16x8 rims, but have thinner tires than me; kinda like low-profile tires. I was thinking, that since my car came from the factory with 15x7 rims, and the speedo gears were never changed (and I can't find any anywhere that'd work), I thought that maybe if I got some lower-profile tires for my new rims, that I could MAYBE get that 16x8 and tire to about the same radius and diamter as the 15x7 rim and tire, so my speedo will be somewhat closer, and not 15 mph off like it is now.

Anyone have any suggestions, ideas, or what kind of place sells tires like what I want?

Thanks all

245/50-16 came stock so that what i would go with. Acutally i myself would use 255/50-16 in the rear and 245/50-60 front, but that is just me.

As for tires go to any tire place and tell them the size you want 245/50-16. They will put them on for you.

To figure out some tyre sizes that work and won't affect speedo gears, what I do is the following:

First, I assume your car could have had a 215/65R15.

What you can do is go to bfgoodrichtires.com, hit tyres, click a category (in this case, sports car works) pick a tyre you think will come in the size you're considering and then make note of the

Approved Rim Width
and
O.D.

which on Goodyears site are 7.5-6.0 and 26" for a 215/65R15.

Just find a 16" tyre that has an acceptable rim width inclusive of 8.0" and is about 26" tall A 255/50R16 is about 26.1" and works great on these cars. OEM on the third gens with 16" wheels was sometimes 245/50R16.

Now quit whining, and go put tyres on your car, n00b.
