1/4 Mile Shock Adjustment

I have KYB adjustable shocks and struts and was wondering how I should adjust them for the track? The struts have four adjustments and the shocks have eight. From my minimal understanding of suspension I'm leaning towards the softest setting in the rear and the stiffest in the front. Does this sound right?

The struts have a screw at the top and the shocks have a **** at the base of the shock.

actually you want the front softer for better wieght transfer to help with traction and disconnecting the sway bar up there helps a little too.

So should I go as soft as possible up front and a little firmer in the rear?

that is a good starting place, youll really have to mess with it to get it just right since every car is a little different.

The KYB AGX shocks and struts are single adjustable units and as such your only able to adjust the amount of rebound. By this I mean that your only able to vary the rate at which the shock or strut expands while the compression rate remains constant. Just something to kepp in mind when making your adjustments.

Set the fronts on the lowest setting and leave it there. You want very little rebound damper so the front raises quickly.

The rears I would recommend setting at about 2 clicks of 8. Then raise it one click at a time after two passes at each setting- as long as your times increase, then keep going one click at a time- once time decreases, simple enough, back it down one click to the previous fastest time.

Yeah, I noticed that by just compressing them by hand. Not quite what I hoped for, but you get what you pay for.

Makes sense. I'll hopefully get to try it out this weekend, assuming I didn't screw up the TransGo kit I just put in (haven't tested it yet).

Thanks again for the advice guys, I'll let you know what kind of 60' I can come up with.

Yeah, I did make it out to the track but didn't really get to test and tune the suspension. I ran into some tranny problems (2-3 bind) which limited me to only 3 runs and took my attention away from the suspension. My best 60' was my first run with a 1.83. That is a tenth off my previous best, but I also just put in a new converter (vigilante) so I can't conclude anything about the shocks and struts yet. I also did this at higher elevation than my previous best, at a track that doesn't hook nearly as well, on an extremely hot (high 90's, if not 100+) day.

It will probably be at least a couple more trips to the track over the next month or two before I can give you a definitive answer on the benefits of the new shocks. From a seat of the pants perspective I could feel the front lift and back end squat and was told it looked good.

Good luck with your car and sorry I couldn't be more of a help.
