Brackets for brake setups

Found a great website for custom work. They even include a free CAD style download that is very user friendly even to the inexperienced.

You basically download the CAD software, draw your design, pick the desired finish and submit immediately to get price quotes within about 60sec online- then keep adjusting the design until you get the disired result and price range. It even allows a 3D rotational veiwing of your design as you custom build it.

I just ordered my custom brackets for the Wilwood setup I'm doing through this site.

Let me know how that works out dean, i have looked at the site before.

I few guys on frrax, and corner-carvers have used it, and seem to be happy.

And since i keep eyeing those coleman calipers, and rotors, i may need new brackets.

John, The prototype bracket I made already works, but I am just not happy with the finished look. I have only fairly primitive metal working tools and can easily fabricate anything for the most part that requires welding and a coat of paint, but these I want to be VERY percise as I expect you would feel the same. When messing with brake parts, tolerances should be very accurate for reasons of bolt torquing and mating surfaces being milled flush so things don't loosen for any reason.

After building my own prototype bracket, I feel I didn';t have the percision quality required- It looked and fit the bill, but that didn't mean it was correct. This company is also putting a protective anodized ceramic heat coating on the ones I ordered also to help cotrol any further heat and expansion, also prevent any further corrosion.

I chose to make the brackets out of aluminum in the first place-why- because Wilwood's radial mount brackets AND calipers are also aluminum that mount to these and have the same type of coatings. I ordered them the same thickness as the radialmounts (.700" finished thickness overall, and the two tab mounts that attach to the spindle will be milled down -.180" to a finished of .520" thick- I have a .525" radius on these tab areas which allows for .3375" wide of material around the perimiter of the spindle bolts. Wilwood allows for only .275" material around their .700" thick mount holes- so even though I'm thinner in this area thickness wise (.520" opposed to .700") I made up a bit on width of material. The original prototype I made from aluminium was only out of 1/2" (.500") stock to begin with, so If I were to have that milled for the tabbs I would be nervous from the aluminium and thinness required for offset fitting of the caliper.

Worst part is waiting another 30 days for the new custom parts to arrive- but I really don't have any time until then to work on the car further 9I'll be very busy with work for 2 weeks, then off on another vactaion for awhile with the family.

Interesting, i think about 1/2" is as thin as i would go. i will probably do mine in steel, but aluminium is a nice touch, i just worry too much, and still have a little doubt of aluminium for brake brackets :: shrugs :: my plan was 1/2 steel brackets, I keep thinking radial mount is the way to go, but then my pocket book see's the price . maybe this winter the camaro will go back under the knife, and we will see what neat peices come from it.
