ok, so i have replaced the balljoints on my LCA's three times now. once just for kicks, then i slid into a curb and bent one. so i replaced both again. and today i was going to cutan inch off of my springs (witch went verry well) and when i went to re tighted the balljoint the threaded portion just spun with minimal wrench pressure. so i had to replace them again.

my question is this: what would cause a balljoint to just "fail" like this after only a few months? the guys at knekts/checker had never heard of such a thing. (surprized? i am not)

oh! the worst part. the balljoints i broke hade a lifetime guarantee. but of course i no longer have the recipt. but since autozone keeps customer records in there computer i am going to see if they will replace them anyway.

I'm not so sure your ball joints are busted. I believe the threaded shaft portion is supposed to be able to spin. The tapered hole in the spindle that the ball joint shaft slips through should hold it firmly while you tighten the nut. I hope someone will back me up on this because I'm not an expert here by any means. I just think there is something you or I are not understanding.

That is correct; the threaded portion is free to spin in the part that's pressed into the control arm. That's its job.

You just need to hold it still somehow while you put the nut on; maybe clamp the spindle to the CA with a big C-clamp or something, to jam it into the tapered hole in the spindle and hold it in place.

i think it must have been greasy or somthing...... anyway. so i just spent 22.00 in new balljoints..... they are in. back together tomorow.....

man it is going to be nice finally getting everything done fron suspension wise. this has been an ongoing project for quite some time. (mostly due to buyng wrong parts and other similar fups. oh and hitting that curb didnt help ) she is going to corner like she was on rails...... or crack :werd:
