panhard bar

just kind acurious as to what the difference between the panhard bar and watts linkage would be?

in function, performance and such

with a PHB the rear moves sideways very s;ightly as the bar swings through its arc. The Watts link keeps the rear perfectly centered

just curious cause I know on the first gen rx7 it is a watts linkage

why didn't they use that design on the thrdgen?

probably cost and difficulty with a 10 bolt. they would have needed a different cover design, prob cast alluminum

packaging is probably the main reason. along with cost.

The watts link is also much heavier than the PHB setup. and with the very long PHB we have, the lateral movement is very little. To pull the watts link off on our cars, they probably would have had to mount it diffrently, and that the bell mounted on a backet attached to the frame, and then the arms attached to the axle from there.

For everyone who is currious, here is what a whats link looks like.



The center portion rotates, so as the length of the arms change during axle movement, it will turn, , but the centerpoint remains the same, thus no lateral movement of the axle.
