I have my 88 iroc setup for street/stip, 545hp 383, + N2O, so i got some power.. I have just about everything you can think of up graded except the rear sway bar. How do you guyz feel about the stock piece vs aftermarket.. I went on Spohns web site, they have a 1" piece, a 7/8" piece and a hardcore drag setup.. What should i get???

How much street driving does this car see with 543hp? Is it strictly a weekend toy to cruise to events and such and drag race? or does it see some fairly mild corning also?

Reason I ask this is because if its just a straight line monster, your better off using the massive 1 5/16" drag bar to control launch. However, you try and drive fairly agressively around a cornerwith that bar on and the *** end will come around on like you were on ice with the slightest blip of the throttle. The rear inside tire will not stay planted because of the sway stiffness.

The ideal bar for you in cornering would most likely be the 7/8" bar with a V8 in the car.

vsixtoy, thanks for the info, alot there that i didn't realize.. I will be doing quite a bit of street driving, pretty much everytime the suns out, the camaro will be out. I think i'm leaning towards the 1" bar now after reading your reply, although the 7/8 might work too, still alittle uneasy.. I mean i'm not gonna be kicking the *** out around turns or nothing like that, i dont even have a front sway bar on the car, and i'm running runners up front too so they wouldn't like the tight cornering either BUT like i said i do quite of bit of street 'cruisin'.. I guess i'm alittle leary of the N2O hits as well, yes i have 545hp naturally aspirated but with my 250 shot, that ups the bar to around 800hp hehe..

So what do u think 7/8" or 1"

 

With that said, I would suggest the 1" rear bar. The 1 5/16" drag bar is just too much for any "quality" of street drivng. Plus you'd be busting the heim joints (end links) even with only mild street use. If you didn't have the HP you have, I'd suggest the 7/8" bar.

You have built the car definately for a purpose- Drag only but with street event cruises (I'm assuming such as 'Route 66" type venues to give an example). That 1" bar will give you a very good compromise for both without running a front bar. If you have to drive far for any reason, this will still allow you to bolt on a front bar and have a decent feel at hwy speeds till you get there. Jsut know that any kind of regular street driving without a front bar will be very taxing on the front suspension- and your sanity (this gets worse the bigger the rear bar is.)

 

Every 3rd gen is different from the factory. You pretty much have to measure your own (or have your girlfriend do it- terrible joke )
