Since you are fairly new, you need to try out the search function. There is a lot of info (and debate) about the benefits of a 9-bolt compared to a 10-bolt, and a Dana 44.

I've got a 10-bolt now, and a guy is holding a 9-bolt for me. Once I get enough money, the 10-bolt is history. The drawback for the 9-bolt is the cost of the parts.

There is a technical article on beefing up the 10-bolt that you might want to look at.

the 9bolt isnt bullet proof, it can be built up, but probably buy the time you get all the parts brand new, you could almost buy an aftermartket piece that would be much stronger.

i've never torn up a stock 10bolt, but i destroyed a stock 9 bolt in 2 days

I was supposed to trade MasseyIroc his 3.23 9 bolt with rear discs for my 2.73 10 bolt w/drums, because it was easier for him to build up the 10 bolt. But then he found some 3.73 gears for his 9 bolt. Sucks for me though, that rear end would of been perfect for me
