torgue arms

alright so im getting really close to ordering my strange rearend with 3.73's. and while ive got it out i thought i go ahead and change out the torque arm and panhard bar(lakewood adjustible panhard bar). so with that what do you think about the jegs adjustable torque arm or the edelbrock torque arm?

http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerc...cgrfnbr=155886

I was also looking for some rear springs. something like moroso's trick rear springs but dont know if they make them for my car. or just something that is thicker than stock and really heavy duty. any suggestions?

ps. i dont want anything to do with spohn products; even though everybody like them.

Go with an adjustable one and you'll be happy. Also, try the Eibach pro kit springs. They work really well and give a good stance.

they beefed up the welds on their versions now after what happen to many of us here in michigan. i sold the one they gave me in return at a loss to wash my hands of the situation. i've been fine with a stock one and will continue to do so until i come across one for the right price.

I've got the jegster adjustible, happy with the actual piece but install was a PITA to say the least. Good deal for the money and is working good to date.

One thing I wish anyone of these companies producing these adjustible arms would do is make adjustible mounting points up front so you can rasie or lower the point where the arm attaches to the tranny tunnel mount. This would be an ideal design so IC can be adjustied accordingly, these shorter arms hit the tires really hard and being able to lower the mounting point so you can take some of the hit off the tires and put it back in the chasis.

the reason why i dont want spohn is everybody has them and im not made of money.

whoever said they have the jegsters one how was the install a little bit of details would be nice.

also for the one who suggested the eibock pro kit. does that drop your car 2". cus i dont want to lower my car i already scrap on stock springs. I really want some drag springs but noone makes them.

Had to remove the front seats/console pull back the carpet so you could drill the multiple holes for all the bolts that hold the tunnel bracket to the tunnel. A buddy and I spent 20 minutes trying to get one of the rod ends to start into the torque arm itself, the arm came with the first couple of threads boogered up. I had my newly installed 9" hung and I had extreme clearance problems of where the torque arm bolted to the bracket on the center section of the rear end. BFH was the only easy fix without cutting out the rear floor pans and redesgning the layout for clearance. It might have just the Mosier 9" and the way the brackets all came together for the big clearance issues ( I could'nt even get the torque arm onto the rear end brckt with the rear end hanging with just the rear shocks holding it in place-that's how bad clearance was.

Now that it's all done it was worth it, but at the time I was having one problem after another with the Mosier 9" and when I installed the torque arm it was just more fuel for the already blazing fire.

IC location is determined by the SVSA Length and the LCA's, moving the location of the TA mount up or down doesn't really effect the IC. moving it front/back does however.

Please give me some more info, formulas dont mean squat to me In the real world on the race track most of the guys runnig 3rd gens that are fast and consistent explained to me that torque arm is basically a ladder bar set-up so. I might have been misinterpreting everything I've read/heard to date but was thinking since it's a "ladder bar" type suspension the actual mounting point is the IC-more/less.

If I'm looking at the pic's right, then am I to assume it's basically a ladder bar type system that's upside down so to speak?

With a typeical 4 link the bottom bars as usally tried to be kept parallel to the ground and the top bars are what determine the IC by going up or down holes in the mounting location. Given this idea, the Torque arm is kept parallel to the ground and the LCA's would in essence be the adjustment for IC? Getting out there now huh? I;m looking for any info and soild info any would have into this suspension before I go and start modifing what I have with this concept I've got.

My current thinking is making 2 holes lower on the front mount of the tranny tunnel bracket so i can drop down the front of the torque arm and then readjust my pinon angle sine the TA I have is adjustible. My thoughts are that instead of this shorter unit mounting back by the back seats in essence putting IC further back and hitting the tires, changing the front mounting location will make the suspension think the torque arm is longer than it is and get the IC closer to where it was from the factory.

All I know (from pics and vids) is that last yr with the factory stuff the car would set the rear wheel lips onto the rear tires it would transfer so hard-with the small motor, with this new torque arm, the rear of the car serparates. The space between the rear tires and the wheel well gets larger on launch. Instead of rocking the car back, the back now rasies up. Given 5kid's explanation of equal pressure being exerted since the car is now pressing the tires into the ground, I need to take some hit away from the tire and make the car absorb it. I think i'm about maxed, or close to it for what these 9" tires can handle and if I have my way and go bigger shortblock or even try a BBC, I need so adjustibility so the car will take the hit instead of the tires.

Ok, there is alot there. First off, you cannot compare a torque arm suspension to a ladderbar, or 4 link. the slipping front mount changes the dynamics. the mounting point of the center arm in a 3 link does come into the IC calculations, but not in a torque arm suspension. because there the force is only applied in a up/down fashion (the slide mount keeps it from acting like a really long arm 3 link). It gets pretty complex, hopefully someone with more time will get more in depth. I'm at work, so I can't take the time right now to type a novel.
