Subframe connectors
Hi everyone,
I have an '85 Z-28 that has a stock factory suspension. I would like to stiffen the frame with sub-frame connectors, but am unsure which company makes the best fitting ones. Any ideas?

I don't really think that there's just one good company that fits the best. But, when I was in the market for SFCs, I searched alot on the boards and I think that Spohn SFCs seem to be the most popular. I haven't seen anyone yet complain about Spohn's subframe connectors.
I'm not sure if you're interested, but Spohn SFCs must be welded in (which is not a bad thing). You can get bolt-in SFCs, but the general consensus is that it's better to get weld-in SFCs (although you can weld bolt-in SFCs).
Hope this helps.

im looking to put some weld-on SFC on also and was told for the weld on ones you have to relocate your rear springs? Is that true? I dont want to go through all that hassle to put them in

I think i'm going to buy Jeg's subframe connectors. They claim to be 40% stronger than the competitor's and they bolt in. I plan to bolt them in, then take the car to a welder and have them joined to the car permenently.

No sfc's I'm aware of require relocating the rear springs. The only sfc's I have experience with are the alston's I put on my vert. They did stiffen the car up dramaticly but did not fit perfectly, Both front cups would not seat completely on the subframe. This probably does not have a significant impact on the strength of the chassis but if your a perfectionist........ It's enough to bother you. That being said, If I were to do it again I'd try the spohns.
i love my comp engineering pieces, very well built and outlasted my 85 z28, even through 2 accidents, "felt the whole car being damaged as one piece" lol so now their on the iroc with some new spiffy paint...
and my friend bought the spohn pieces for his 91 rs, i personally can't tell a difference driving and they both feel about the same mass wise...
anyways it is safe to say any sfc you buy will drastically change your ride and happyness level until you hear the word cage...

I have installed or helped install SSM, Jegs, Hotchkis, Spohn SFC's
none of these are terriable But the Spohn design is superior, it follows the conture of the Floor boards so that you can weld the SFC along the Pinchwell and it not only connects the Front sub frame to the rear but also to the Tranny sub frame area which triangulates it for strength, The others eithere only went From Rear to Tranny sub frame, or didn't Trangulate or didn't follow the floor board contur and could only weld on the Front and rear mounting points. And DONT bolt them in, If you are gonna put forth the money to get something to strength the car Don't you want the most strength and stability for the money, If WELD in a set From SPOHN!!!!

any sfc will be good.. the only issues you need to worry about are the clearances that the different brands give you in terms of the ground and your exhaust... I personally have spohns welded in and am very satisfied with them.
