3rdgen wheels on a 4thgen?

I have a '84 ta with slicks. I want to know if anyone has tried using 3rd gen wheels on a 4th gen? I have a '97 WS6 and am going to the track this weekend. I would like to run the slicks if they will fit. I've heard a lot of people running 4thgen wheels on a 3rd with spacers, but wasn't sure the other way around.

I've heard that the you can squeez 4 16x8 front wheels on. The rears have slightly less offset, and will have clearance issues. I have never done this, so I cannot verify that info. Just something I heard being tossed around on an Road-Race/AutoX board I go to. They were thinking of ways to get more track width.

Hmm. these are the 15x7.5's from the '84. All 4 are the same... I guess I can try it and see if they clear the calipers.

On frrax.com they were talking about people running 4 fronts to increase the track. Go there and read the thread.

You may be able to use front wheels (the ones with different factory offsets than the rears) on all 4. Just for fun I put my 17x9's on my 95Z to see if they would work. They stuck out like 3" in the front past the fender. I didn't even bother with the rear since the result would have been nothing less than 2".

Hmm. Yeah I'll just have to try it... On 84's the wheels were the same front and back.. They were like that until around '90 I think.

There used to be a 4th gen with IROC wheels on it in my old neighborhood. They too stuck out a good distance.

There is a 4th gen in my neighborhood that has iroc wheels also they stick out a little doesnt look too bad. To me they belong on a thirdgen though just doesnt look right like a 4th gen ws6 spoiler on a 3rd gen ta.

I don't know about that, my '88 has different wheels front to back.

Saw the same thing. At least 2 or 3 different 4th gen camaros with the 15" bird rims. Looked fine to me.

Cool.. thanks.. I'm just going to run the slicks on them at the track. I'm not going to drive around with them... I like my chrome WS6 wheels just fine I'm not too much for cross generation mods normally..

Wish I could fit a set of stock 15" rims over my 12" rear brakes. Its hard/impossible to find 16" slicks

By the way, the 4th's I've seen with the 15" pontiac wheels were all LT1-style, so I don't know if there are enough brake differences to make it a problem for later 4th gen's.

I have an LS1 rear with 12" brakes and there is no way a stock 15" rim would clear. My 16" black mesh wheels only clear by ~1/4"

I just did this. Read the whole thread - I posted pics of my car. There are issues with new brake pads and rotors but nothing that 7/32" spacers won't fix.

i have 16" REAR iroc rims with 26x11.5 et streets... and all my 4th gen buddys have rented my slicks a time or twelve. the fit, but look *** aweful. only good for the track or an emergency, IMO. im sure a radial of a similar size would fit fine too.
