rear shock problem

ok, i have a knocking/clunking/popping noise when i go around corners or travel over smooth bumps coming from my rear right shock or something in that general area. When my buddy and I tried to figure out what it was we found that when we push down on the rear right side it makes a popping noise and it comes from the upper area where the shock mounts to the body. Now the shock seems fine, it recoils immediately and there are no signs that it is leaking or damaged. Is it possible that the upper mount it loose or damaged? Or could it be something else. We are going to investigate the problem further in this coming week, but figured I would get some input on what it could potentially be. Dealer said it was my shock and i should buy new ones, which i will do eventually but I dont want to put new ones in if they could just be screwed up by some other problem. Any ideas, previous experiences with this problem?

Dave

I had one of the bolts that mounts the shock to the rear end loosen before. The nut backed off a bit so when ever I hit bump I got a bad clunk. I would say check out where they mount to the rear end and the body.

Where they mount the the body is underneath the carpet right at the bend behind the seats. You can pull back the carpet where it meets the trim and there should be pieces of foam. Underneath is the upper shock mounts.

There should be rubber bushings there. Sometimes those wear really bad too. That could also be a problem.
