Wow, that sucks. You're lucky that's all it did, though. On some of our cars, it probably would have made a hole from bumper to bumper.

yeah luckily it was just the K member then the wood shatterd.. so i can probably just get a tubular K member later on and consider it fixed.. i was so scared of what the damage was till thats all i saw and was somewhat relieved

I went over a railroad crossing on 4th Ave. in San Mateo, CA and hit bottom. Pushed the exhaust crossover into the pan and bent the header on the driver side at the head flange. I wasn't going very fast either....30 MPH at the most.

After removing the headers to assess the damage, cost $270 for a replacement from SLP.

And my car is stock height.

That sucks. My SLP tri-y headers have 2 pipes that come from the drivers side and one is lower than the other. Needless to say that lower pipe has a nice flat bottom to it about 1" wide lol. Only one pin-hole exhaust leak at a weld. Going to get it fixed soon since I just spend the better part of 2 days fixing a couple other exhaust leaks.
I like the way you think... if it's broke, replace it with something better .

this is what kills me when i see people lowering there cars another 2".. you better live somewhere nice, or just never drive it

i brought a friend home from work last summer, he lived in the city and when i pulled up into his driveway my whole car bottomed out on the sidewalk.. (the driveway kinda went up, then flat for the sidewalk, then up some more)
scraped the paint off the front subframe

also had a couple of run ins with junk on the road too... sucks

My Z28 is lowered more than 2" but I can still drive it on the street. I drive that bad boy all over the island. The lower air dam scrapes on everything, everywhere. You just have to adjust your driving habits and learn where you can drive the car and be safe. On some parts of the freeway I change lanes just to be in the smooth lane. Learn where the potholes and dips are and avoid them. In some cases you wont be able to fit in some parking garages. There are bad areas, but I've only had to go through em once or twice. Remember where they are and take other routes. We got some pretty bad roads here in Hawaii, our main problem is potholes. I've seen nicer condition in Cali, but worse on the east coast. You are right, it depends on the roads.

my exhaust drags everytime i go over a speed bump. Is there anything i can do myself to raise the exhaust w/o too much work?

I had the same thing happen to me, mine was a rock though. I was coming around a curve and there it was along with a car in the other lane. I installed some lowering springs just four days before it happened. it dented my crossmember and my three inch y pipe was bent in half, both headers are shot, and i also have a nice paint chip on my rocker panel. forgot to mention the brand new paint job.

I was just about speechless and almost afraid to stop cuz i knew it was gonna be bad. I now have no y-pipe and thats no big deal for now cuz an engine swap is on its way along with a complete new exhaust. The paint is what i almost cried about.
