need 2 rear tires for strip - which ones???
I am looking for a decent drag tire. I am running the stock 16" honeycomb rims and need recommondation on a good tire - size, etc. A brand name and number would be great. i only want to spend 150 each at the most. I am hitting the track in april and need a good launch tire that will get real sticky. thanks

slicks are the only way to go. get some 15 inch rims and a pair of et streets. otherwise you "could" run drag radials in a 255/50R16 size, but they won't hook as well as slicks. not to mention you can't get many miles out of them like normal street tires.

just bought these tires for my car (rear)

They are good year Eagle F1 GS-D3 tires. They say they have the top traction rating and look like decent tires. I am going to try these. Im not looking for instant stick - just looking for overall better traction so when i go into 2nd and 3rd hard, my tires dont spin into shifts. For 151 a piece i really cant go wrong. there not that expensive and should hold me over until i put on the C5 rims at 10.5" in the rear. I will let you know how they run next week.

If they’re for the dragstrip buy some slicks and be done with it. Even some dinky 26x9 hoosiers will hook better then most DR’s with no work, and there are a few 26” tall, 16” rim slicks out there that are pretty good (I’d still prefer 15’s).
If you’re really looking for something that you’ll use on the street then something like nitto 555r’s (DR’s) make a nice, sticky street tire which you can easily tolerate on a daily driver (I’ve put 28K miles on a set of 275 40 17 nitto DR’s, and something like 300 dragstrip passes). BFG DR’s are not as picky about your setup (ie, slightly closer to a real slick), but they do not handle nearly as well as the nittos and are just as scary in the rain as a set of real slicks. Another tire that I like for all purpose use is the McCreary dirt track tires… they handle well (be aware that they’re bias ply so they feel different then radials), the stick well and even do OK in bad weather (the only sticky tire that I’ve ever had on a car that even do OK in the snow)

Tires....
I know for a fact that BFG Drag radials will hook as good as slicks providing your putting down up to 450 ft/lbs AND your suspension is working with your power output. My 3700 lb T/A has 255/50 R16's and will lay down a 1:57 60 ft. It has Koni adjustable shock/struts; Eibach drag launch springs with airbag, and no front sway bar. BUT when you try to go beyond high 11's, they will start to break loose.

Grab some 15" wheels and buy some Hoosier Quick Time Pro's. Its a DOT legal drag slick (not a radial). They are alot softer than the ET streets and in my opinion are alot better.
My friend has a nitrous'd BBC 2nd gen and dropped 2 tenths in the 1/4 by switching from ET Streets to the Hoosiers.
I cut a 1.743 sixty foot on bone stock suspension with them and 2.73 gears and it was only my third run of the night (and it rained right before I ran).
