3rd Gen LS1 Rack and Pinion Question
Hello,
I have the a tubular kmember and conversion rack and pinon kit from Hawks, and I am having problems hooking up the arm that conects the steering colum to the rack and pinion. I cant seem to get the U-Joint all the way down the post on the rack and it doesnt stay on very well. I apologize for the lack of the right technical terms but I hope you guys get what I am saying. I can only get the Ujoint a little less than half way onto the post and I figure that its not enough...it seems as if the arm is just a little bit too short
. Is there a way to extend it or a better way to attach the ujoint? Any one else have this problem? Thanks.
Chris

See if the same company you got your rack from offers a different steering shaft for the conversion. also, the steering shaft is collapsable, make sure you have it fully extended. mine was difficult to pull back out after i moved it to install my headers.

Yea I was thinking of maybe trying to extend the hole where the shaft is attached to the steering colum to get some more slack with it and play around with it a little...If that doesnt work Im going to try to get a hold of Bruce to see what he says...thanks

To update...
I was able to get the steering shaft attached on both ends pretty well yesterday. I ended up opening up the hole on the steering colum side a bit to give it some more slack, and I was able to get the ujoint pretty far down on the post and changed the set screw in order to hold it on better. It seems to be solid and turns smooth and I hope it stays that way. Im glad I solved one more problem.
