Tire Wear & Rotation

My front tires barely pass the penny test. I think that's 2/32". The rears have slightly more.

Two questions:
Assuming proper alignment and no burnouts, which wears faster, the fronts or rears?

If I rotate front to back, will I have problems with getting loose in the rain? Thanks

Fronts will wear faster, because of the turning. And yeah you might get a lil loose with the slicker ones in the rain.

It's a rwd car. There is no engine tq placed on the front wheels. While the front wheels do the turning, the rear wheels must drag slightly to make the turn. With just about every tire that comes into the shop, the drive wheels have the most wear.

It all dependas on the individual car AND the individual driver.

1example-
My wife could drive the same car I do and have the fronts wear sooner, where as if I drove it the rears could wear sooner based on driving habits

The front tires will ALWAYS wear faster, mainly due to turning scuff (as said above) and more weight on the front.
I assume you are talking a Camaro or a Firebird.

If you go slow enough in the rain, you wont have a serious problem (after you put the rears on the front). But you got to get new tires all around very soon. In the meantime, drive very carefully in the rain.

My buddy and I were just talking about this the other day. We both agreed that the fronts would wear faster if you drove like a grandma. Now in both mine and his case, our rears wear faster, but that's because we both jump off the line fairly aggressively quite a bit (I don't mean spinning tires all over...just about to the limit of grip).

The fronts turn more and have more weight / lateral force put across them when turning (and just regularly loaded standing still). This is assuming you drive VERY smoothly with very few abrupt changes in speed. Otherwise, the rears will wear faster.
