TIREStiresTIREStires?????
okkk.....for my birthday, which is in may, im asking my parents to get me tires! right now i have 255/50/ZR16's Kuhmo Ecsta tires. for one, the tires are going out and two, i have no traction in the rain :-\ and seattle is a place you need SOME traction in the rain! what are YOUR suggestions on a sick *** tire, with some major dry traction and a decent wet traction meant for the STREET? i was looking at the BFG t/a tires that have that crazy tread design...... but please give me some suggestions!!!! thank you!

I like the bfg for stickyness , didn't like them for how many times that got holes in them from foreign objects. I had the kumho's also , I hated those had the same problem you have, no traction what so ever in rain. They also weared out uneven. I am running cooper gt's now . I like em but only had em on for 3 weeks so the jurys still out on them.
You might want to ask the tire dealer ship for ratings on the softness and rain hookup.

I'm having good luck with my nitto nt 450's around here. Although I haven't used too many different types yet. Plus they were cheaper than the kumho's.

I am running Nitto 555RII race tires and they seem to be pretty decent in the rain.
they are awesome on dry surfaces but have a very low tread wear rating, 100. most tires are 180-330.
The BFG T/A KDW old style tread does great in dry and wet weather, I'd recommend those. I have no experience with the new tread design.

I've always liked Bridgestone Potenza's. They have some awesome technology behind their tires, and the stuff works good (from my experience). I'm running their S03's on another set of wheels and they handle awesome in the dry and wet. Probably the best tire I've ever owned, and I do go through quite a bit of tires (from drifting). The thing I like the best about the S03's is that they still grip great when they are worn down. Other tires I've had grip good, but when they wear down a bit they dont grip as good. Not so with the S03's, they will be just as good the day you trash them that they were the day you bought them.
But they dont make the correct tire size in S03's for the 16x8's. Its either 225/50/16 or 245/45/16. If you dont mind having a smaller sidewall, I would opt for the 245/45/16 S03's. When I was getting tires for my 16's, I wanted to retain the OEM sizes, so I didnt go with the S03's. I went with a lower model of Potenza, the RE730's in size 245/50/16. Those RE730's handle good in the rain too, better than any other tire I've had on my 16's (Kuhmo 712's, Yoko AVS100's, and of course the lower quality tires like Eagle GT II's or whatever). But they werent as good as the S03's (didnt use the same technology). The RE730's have since then been replaced with the RE750's, probably just as good of a tire. The next step up would be the new RE950, and that RE950 uses alot of the same technology of the S03's and comes in a 245/50/16 size. So thats the tire I would recommend for you if you want great wet/dry handling and OEM size tires: Potenza RE950 in 245/50/16. Next set of tires I buy for the 16's will definately be those.

BFG KDW are great tires for rain/dry, but neither do i have experience with the new tread design since they didnt have it for a 275/40/17 tire but they might have it for your size. Tirerack.com says they are better then the older design.

Potenza, Is the best wet tire I have ever had. Period.
It also was better in the dry than Goodyear Gatorbacks and GSC

Currently, I have BFG's on the back of my Z since 99 and need some new rubber. On the front I have the nitto 450's. I was planing on running the nitto 555 drag radials in the rear, but I dont want them due to low life. SO, How do the new BFG's KWD compare to the Potenza's? From my experience with the SO2's, I would easily be moved to a potenza from the BFG's if the traction of the potenza is better than the new BFG's KWD's especially in the dry. ALSO, which potenza? the 750 or the 950?

I forget the flavor, but they are no longer made. I tried to get the same tires again, but tire wreck said they were now improved.
I guess the new model would be even better.

If you drive in the rain a lot, you should look at the Goodyear GSD3's. It's a European tread design (ie, aggressive wet tread design) and it's pretty sticky on dry roads too. Straight line acceleration isn't as good as BFG's or Nitto's, but they take turns pretty well.
If you want an affordable tire, look at BFG Traction's. I have them on my daily driver and I'm pleased with them. Not high performance tires but they grip pretty well, are directional for water dispersion, and they have a 60K mile warranty.
Check local stores or on-line for prices.

I was really impressed with the bridgstone's PSO2's and heard great things about the 750's too. I think I am going with Bridgestones this summer, which ones, I don't know....potenza 750's i guess.
The thing that impressed me about my pso2's was the traction was still there towards the end of the tire's life! Unlike my BFG's. They are at the end of thier life and they are slick!! Definatley getting the bridgestone's, just gotta figure out which ones. I hope I can still get the potenza 750s.

Dont get a fuzion there to hard. Ponteza is the way to go. The new entry level Potenza Goo9 is a exellent tire. I have them on the rear, 2455016, got em both for 150. Thats cause i work for them. They get excellent traction, before i got them first gear would be mostly spinning. With these tires that has stopped, they just grip.

I've run just about all different brands and without a doubt, the potenza's and the Bfg's were best. Right now I have the BFG KDWS and I love 'em. The potenza's I had were the RE910, which are no longer available. I imagine all there products are pretty good.
Both of those tires (BFGs and Potenzas) were all season tires. For lots of rainy use, that's the only way to go. They're made that way for a reason.
