uneven rear body height

I recently my 1986 Trans Am is lower on the right rear, I measured the difference between the left and right sides and there is a one inch difference.

It was purchased last spring so I don't know what work has been done on it. The vehicle was stored winters and has no rust under it, even the suspension parts are clean. There is 82,000 miles on this vehicle.

Does anyone know what is causing this problem and what is needed to correct it. Thank you!!

the problem is theres always a driver in these cars, so the spring wear is greater on the drivers side causing them to sag more

solution, buy new springs

Thanks, I'll try that, the only problem which I didn't mention is the right side is lower than the left side but given its age new springs would not hurt.

I have the same problem. With 1/4 tank of gas my passenger rear has 2 1/2" of gap. the other 3 are at 2 1/4. With a full tank, the rear sits lower than the front.

What is the stock gap supposed to be? What's everyone at now(gap wise).

If anyone has a vert with sportlines I would really like to know their measurements with a full tank and 100lbs of stereo in the trunk.

Help me out!

I'll always mess with stuff first before replacing it, but its up to you. Could just be a simple fix costing little to no money. Check tire pressures first, then re-seat the rear springs. Also check the spring isolators while re-seating the springs. If you do all that and everything is correct and it still is uneven, then I would suspect a worn spring. You could try swapping the rear springs (left to right) and see if the other side sits lower to verify if it is indeed the spring or not. Thank goodness it only take like 3 minutes to swap rear springs on these cars.
