loose feeling front end
Hey People,
I have a 1987 Firebird with a V6 (2.8L).The car seems to wonder and the steering feels loose. The brakes are fine so I know it isn't pulling due to a grabbing brake.
I have heard that the steering box could be worn and need adjusting. The balljoints on my car could need replacing because the wear indicator ,I think they say they do. The wear indicator ,if I'm correct, is the distance from the grease fitting nut to the base of the balljoint. If this is right ,the grease fitting nut is not visible anymore. The only thing visible is the round part of the fitting itself along with a slit(1/16" opening), in the base of the balljoint.
My question is , what parts usually wear faster on these vehicles and has anyone ever had to adjust there steering box?
Thans for the help
Ron

There's a lot of threads here on what to check and how to check it. Please, however, resist the urge to tighten your steering box until you have eliminated all other possible causes. Over adjusting the steering box will kill them fast-causing tracking and overcorrection problems. They also the most expensive item to replace between your steering wheel and the tires.
