Tires.

Just curious. I am looking at buying new tires for my 86 Z28. The tires that are on it now are 215/65-15's, (stock i believe). I was looking on tirerack.com, and it said there, that 235/60/15's were optional equiptment. Just curious if my rims that now have the 215/65-15's will work with the 235/60/15 tires. Or would i need new rims for the wider tire?

Any help is appreciated

Thanks

I'm driving on 235/60/15's with no problem. I might go a little wider next time.

they fit fine, look nicer too.

I run that size on the front, and 275/60 on the rear, but I have 8" wide wheels.

I used 245/50 15s once. Comp T/As.

We couldn't get the weights to stick. The tire over hang interfered with the clip holding the weights.

We ended up using tape on weights on the inside but they used to fly off all the time.

Actually the factory 15" tire was 215/65/15 with an optional 235/60/15 when 15" wheels were the largest available.

Factory 16" was 245/50/16 on the Iroc/Z28 model, however base models with 16" wheels recieved 235/55/16.

I'd recommend 235/60/15 on 15" wheels.

over the 245/50/16?...why is that,? I'm just curious...i wanted to eventually upgrade to the stock 16 inch z28 wheels with the stock size or slightly larger tires (i have the stock 215/65/15 right now)

Is there anything better about having the 215/65/15 instead of the 245/50/16?

Read carefully I said I recommend 235/60/15 on 15" wheels.

The only thing that 215/65/15 are better at than 245/50/16, besides price, is snow traction.

ok...but would you recommend 235 on 15s instead of 235 on 16s?, and if so, why?...I think I'd probably want to go with the 245/50/R16, since they were the biggest stock wheel/tire...I'd like to keep it stock or real close and i thought going from my 215/65/R15 to a 245/50/R16 would be a nice little upgrade, something not too drastic yet nicer looking

In about two weeks I'll be running 255/50/16. I would recommend either 245/50/16 or 255/50/16. I would recommend 16" wheels over 15" wheels. They have less sidewall and allow for larger brakes.

I used to have one of the Camaro Berlinettas that came stock with 14" gold aluminum wheels. Dang they were ugly. Stock size was 205/70-14! That's just nasty.
