Rear shocks
I have to change out my rear its toasted.
I was able to unbolt everything so far except
the freaking shocks.
I stripped everything on the upper bolt
and that little stupid key on top of the shock screw.
I tried vise grips and it just shredded.
I cant move the bottom bolts either they just
turn with the other end, guess I should cut it off.
I tried to hold the other end of bolt on the bottom
but its just stripped also what a pain in the ****.
Whats a good tool to use to cut it apart?
Can buy something to attach to my electric drill?

Use an angle grinder for the bottom bolts
I ended up having to do that, fortunately the new shocks came with new bolts.
Mark.

new shocks
Hello Difflock,
What shocks did you get?
I dont know if they come with the lower bolts and the other
stuff thats on there?
Theres soft rubber bushings on top but I dont know
what it is on the bottom yet, didnt cut it off.
But it looks alot harder then the rubber on the top.

problem
I got the store to get me KYB GR2 but
the hardware to bolt the shock to bottom of the car
did not work for me.
It had threads on both sides.
THe only ones that had the same hardware for the bottom
was monroe sensatrac and those really suck.
whats up with that?
I thought all 3 gens where the same.

The shocks were SACHS Super Gas (dirt cheap over here in UK £35 each). Don't know if Sachs stuff is really rated or not, but the old shocks were absolutely knackered. Hence, anything else was a vast improvement
The shocks came with new bottom bolts, new bottom mounting rubber AND new rubber mounts/metal plates for the top of the shock too.
Cheers,
Mark.

Sachs
Never heard of it
but uk35 is like 70 over here maybe
IF the rate is 2 to 1 thats more then I payed for the monroes
they where 25 us dollars each.
The lower rear shock hardware story...
Heres the story from the sales guy in
a small auto parts store, in stock KYB airshocks with
the same lower hardware that wasnt for 3rd gens.
What he explained in short order was the kyb was for 82-02 so thats why the hardware is different...umm ok THen he said
buy the shocks and get the right hardware..So I said I guess
you dont have the right hardware huh.. yeah I dont have it
you have to go to a speed shop or maybe a suspension shop and
get the hardware.
So instead of doing that I went to R&S strauss and got the Monroe sensatrac again since they had the correct lower hardware, unfortunately in my haste to finish up the rear swap I think I messed up the shock install.
Cheerio

I had the Sensatracs on my car before I replaced them with cheap Gabriel shocks, but I have to say that the Gabriels looked like the better choice in a side-by-side comparison.
It's been a while since I've finished up that job (it was a PITA), but I remember the Monroes had a design that allowed the bottom bolt to spin the bushing when trying to loosen it from the car. My friend and I sat there with an air gun for 30 minutes just trying to get the stupid bolt off of the car.
You said you already bought them, but my advice would be to pass these shocks by next time. They're just not very well designed.
