can you use 4th gen steering?

can you use 4th gen steering?

Is there a way to put in the 4th gen steering(rack n pinion thing) i have available to me a 4th gen setup. so would i just need to buy a tubular crossmember from Hawks then use my 4th gen rack on it? please let me know what all i need to take of my 4th gen Camaro becasue im gettin rid of it soon?

Hmmm, wish I knew the answer to this also. I'm sure there's a way to make it work. I have a rack off a 4th gen also.

well i know i Hawksthirdgen they have a crossmember n steering rack combo but i wonder if the 4th gen steering rack will work instead?

You can get it to work. I have no experience here, exept all the posts I have read about it.

4th gen racks effectivly W-I-D-E-N your turning radius to the point of rediculousness. Like 3 or 4 lanes for a U-turn I have read. Also it doesn't mount up the same as the Hawks piece. The reason for the increased radius is the shape of our spindles. Steer clear of this set up and get nice new NAPA parts or get the entire convertion from Hawks.

Hawks did some prototype stuff with the 4th gen rack before going to the custom (Appleton I think) rack they sell now. Bruce told me they had issues with the 4th gen rack; its been a couple years now, but I beleive he said that they were having bumpsteer issues with it. That said, I'd go with the whole setup from him now, or stick to a power box.

yea that exactly what he told me when i emailed him..they use a diffrent one due to issues with the 4th gen rack thanks for the help
