I wouldn't bother with the extra cm (245 vs 255) because it really doesn't amount to much. A little over 1/3 an inch.
As for tire, I love my Kumho Ecsta Supras (712). They're also pretty well liked on the board and fairly cheap. See above post

Hit up tirerack.com or some similar site and check for yourself. The threads I linked to had prices for the Kumhos.

I sprung for the 255s on the back and regret it. They are noticably taller than the 245s which is not good for my already crappy rear gear ratio, and, assuming your front and rear wheels have different offsets, like my iroc wheels, you've got to break the tires off the rims to rotate them (Kuhmos and many others are directional). Of course you can't rotate front to back as well.
The Kuhmo Supras are great for the money. Wear pretty good, and bite good once they warm up. Not like a drag radial, though. I had one get a knot on the sidewall and had to replace it, but I'll probably buy another set when my current set goes.

the 255 would be both taller and wider with the same aspect ratio, although not by much.

Go to tirerack.com and look up the kuhmos. You can click a button that'll let you look at all the tire sizes with the specifications of each. That'll answer your question.

Kuhmos are good for the $$$. It depends what you do with your car. for the street / mild performance the kuhmos are good. For hi-perf street handling get a better tire. I have Bridgestone RE750's on my other car and they offer alot for the value, yes they cost about 50% more than the kuhmo but aren't like twice as much like the F1's , which are no better than the 750's
as I said it depends what you are using them for and how much you want to spend. I am one who believes you shouldn't buy the most expensive tires, but when you buy cheap tires you often get what you pay for. and if you have a fast car, really your life depends on how safe you make the car, and some of the cheap$ tires are dangerous at high speeds, they don't balance well, and don't have the integrity of some of the other tires available, there are honest tire guys who will tell you alot of tires out there are crap.

Oh yeah, I have 255-50-16 Kuhmos on my Iroc, they are good for the price. The 255 ride alitte better than the 245-45-16 that were on the car stock, offer some more contact with the road, and yes it does throw off the speedo some maybe 2-3 mph at 80.
Will be replacing them with new wheels in the comming months , probably 255-40-17 FR and 275-40-17 RR or if it fits ok 275's all arround, I hear it works, but looks awful close on the front , I don't rub with the 255-16's but there is not much extra room in the wheel well.
