Tire size question
I have a new set of BFG Radial T/A's and wanted to know if they will fit on the stock 3rd gen Formula style wheel? The tires I have are 235-60-15's for the front and 255-60-15's for the rear. They are off my 79 Trans Am. Thanks for the help.
Not to mention that the rears would have over an inch more diameter than what a typical 3rd tire size should have.
3rd gen tire sizes varied from 25.7" to 26" diameters. Go more either way and your speedo will be off.

¿Que? Why do you bother answering questions if you don’t know?
Sure they’ll fit on appropriate wheels. The 2nd gen 15x7” wheels have the same offset as the stock 3rd gen 15x7 wheels used on all the early cars and on some of the later ones. The 2nd gen 15x8 wheels have the same offset as the 16x8 front wheels, that plenty of people have run on all for corners.
235/60/15’s F and 255/60/15 is probably my favorite combination on 15” wheels on a 3rd gen, it looks good, fits perfectly without any modifications, even on a car that is lowered a lot. Here is a pic of my ’83, which was lowered probably close to 3” on a set on some OEM 15x7” wheels.

Oh, and the speedo thing? The typical tire height change from a set of 215/65/15 or 235/60/15’s (the factory 15” sizes) to the 255/60/15 is about 3%, which at 60mph is less then 2mph off… probably more then the factory speedo is off in that range anyway.
