more vibration, possible causes and/or solutions inside
ok i have a bad vibration at high speeds (70+) and i really dnot know what the cause may be.
i already have an alumnium driveshaft from the factory but i gues it could need balancing?
could i be my strut towers in the engine compartment?
could it be the engine itself or motor mounts?
and would my wheels maybe be out of balance?
it shakes so violently that my dash pad looked like it was going to shake off. it a little bit worse on the deceleration but not much. IIRC i had this problem before and i dont remember how it went away but i just need to konw the most likely of the possible problems so i know what to test first/rule out. no shaking at low speeds, just highway speeds.

I think the most common problems are driveshaft and tire balance. You could check the driveshaft for gunk buildup that might be throwing it out and get the tires rebalanced. Could be a bad tire also.

CHeck your Ujoints too. My Z had that problem once. The car sounded like it wanted to fly apart on the highway. I had the wheels balanced, no change. So I jacked it up and grabbed the shaft and it had a 1/2" or more of play. Cost about $20-30 IIRC for the joint, alum. shaft, and about an hour to change it at home...
Have you had an accident, like loss of control and ending up in a ditch, driving over annoying objects like small children and dogs or CURBS, parking blocks, FORDS!!! Just trying to get an idea of how it started.

well i have curbed my car but a while ago and dont remember it starting after that and i dont really know how to tell if ujoints are bad but they seem to be fine. theres some free play when the driveshaft is in the car and i turn it back and forth by hand but it doesnt seem to be loose ujoints. its not really a shake in the steering wheel but the whole car vibrates...seat and dash etc...
any other more common problems for this type of vibration?
EDIT: i took the car out today and it really starts to vibrate at 80 and then almost stops completly at around 75, if that helps

Mine does the same thing, join the club. I have tried lots of things but none of them worked. The only thing that helped was replacing all of the bushings with polyurethane bushings, doing this moved the onset of shaking to 80 MPH.

try checking your driveshaft pinion angle vs factory. If you've installed an aftermarket trans bushing then most likely your tailshaft sits at a different angle. Causes nasty vibrations at high speed.

well that might just be it, i mean it could be anything but i have lowered the car slightly. and i just out in a new bushing thinking it might solve my problem...nope
if it helps anyone any its not a shake in my steering wheel or in the shifter really but the actual CAR...

I have the same issue, you're not alone. I just spend 600 bucks on new brakes, idler arm, and a few other things. the week before I bouhgt all new tires, i'm getting them aligned and re-balanced as we speak. about the only thing left that hasn't been checked/replaced is the driveshaft and that's next, but like you my vibration is just in the front of the car. The dash, console, etc. not the steering wheel or the seats, floor, etc.

Already posted this in the other "vibration" thread.
Could it be the torque converter out of balance? Just a guess, but maybe if a weight has come off and you didn't hear it when it did...
Mark.

I had a vibration much like you describe years ago on my nova. It turned out to be the drive shaft was out of balance. The reason it started was because the drive removed once and not put back in the same position.
I read somewhere about a cheap fix. I took a large hose clamp and attached it to the shaft and kept turning it slightly until the vibration went away.
