New Eibach Springs and Suspension
Hey guys i'm thinking about getting the Eibach Pro-Kit Springs for my car, i've been reading what other people are saying about them. Would i need any other suspension components to complement them and make my car handle great?

Shorter stiffer springs require better shocks. Shocks are very important to the overall handling of the car. Most feel it is the most important mod for handling. I like Koni Yellows. As for making the car handle great, that is a matter of prefference. You could easily spend 3K on mods and still find more stuff that you could do.

On my '88 I have the pro kit springs with billsteing shocks and struts. Right now the only thing holding the car back is a good set of tires. It handles really well nonetheless. Also have SFC's, STB, wonderbar and Lakewood LCA's. I couldn't really ask for much more in a daily driver.

When you install lowering springs you really need to add an adjustable panhard rod and LCA relocation brackets. Both of those additional items will re-center the rear and put the LCA's in their stock geometric allignment. If you do not have sub frame connectors you should install those before you do any suspsension upgrade.

Like alot of people I want to put the Eibach springs on mine...But i need new shocks and struts...I like the koni's but they are expensive as *****. I was looking at KYB GR2's anybody use them. They are on ebay for like 150 and that includes the from struts and back shocks...the reason i'm getting these is bc i'm putting in new Spohn strut mounts...so might as well put new stuts in too...anybody know if the KYB's are worth it?

Drew91,
I have KYB's and will be uprading soon, for the $$ they are great, for hi performance I wouldn't buy them again. If your putting alot of $$ into your suspension parts don't skimp on shocks, as they are the foundation of a good suspension.
on my other car I have had bilstiens, and now have Koni's , Koni's to me are stiff, but the quality of ride and control make them worth it (on a fourth gen) I will be buying Bilstiens for my thirdgen.
If you drive fast and control and safety are important to you save up for a quality shock ( koni, bilstein, Tokico) especially if you are going to spen $250 on those spohn upper mounts, to put KYBs under them would defeat the purpose. and there is no way a KYB can handle a high rate spring like the eibachs either.
KYB GR2's are good for a stock replacement on a budget, but if you're looking for awsome handling look somehwere else.
And don't listen to those on this board who say KYBs are awesome, they are awsome compared to 15year old worn out shocks. but suck compared to the high end shocks

The most important thing is to get the right shocks/struts to match the springs. ****ty shocks w/good springs=a VERY ****ty and harsh ride. You need the right components to control the shorter and stiffer spring rates.
I personally have Bilsteins(sp) all around with the prokit and I love it

Gotta pay to play.
Can you get by with cheaper shocks? Sure can but a lot of people complain about the ride quality..they're just not good enough to compensate for the springs.

Yeah well I'll prolly just save up and get the bilstiens...I also have another question, i need new strut mounts...I was thinking about getting the spohn mounts
http://www.spohn.net/product.cfm?productid=1542
I know these are worth it, but would it be fine if i just went with standard mounts, and keep a good ride quality. All this is starting to add up fast! But it's all good...I just need to know if I SHOULD go with better mounts or if i'd be safe going with standard ones. Besides the Spohns Moog makes some too, which are alot cheaper. I just dunno what to doooooo????
Oh and anybody know where to get the bilstiens for cheaper than $270 each???

It won't hurt but I can't really answer that question since I have a 4thgen(the front suspension is different).
As for prices go to THIS GUY
Talk to him, he'll hook you up.

save, and wait, it's always better.
I hear Shox.com has deals on refurb bilstiens for thirdgens- I think arround $400 for shocks and struts. This is what I'll do when it's time to buy.
Don't feel bad, it's taken me about three years to get close to finnishing my Iroc, I'm hoping for paint in December, then all I I have is a few suspension things ( Oh yeah and wheels) realistically it won't be done until next summer, this really is an expensive hobby. Thirdgens to do them right have about the least bang for the buck compared to LT1/LS1/5.0 but with the exception of the SS/WS6 those cars are really pretty generic compared to a nice thirdgen.
The thing that kills it is the cost of getting a tpi to run right after mods/rebuild all the sensors nickel and dime you to death, plus the reg maint. stuff
except for the initial cost of the vehicle, my TPI Iroc has cost me way more to fix and keep running than my LS1 ( the Iroc is a money pit)
But the satifaction of fixing and tuning and having something that not everyone on the block has it's rewards,
Nothing as fun to drive as the Iroc, the ultimate cruiser/hot rod of the eighties , they don't make cars with character like that anymore
$.02

Yeah I know what you mean about it being expensive...I've had it fir 4 years, and finally got a job where i make decent enough money. I finally bought wheels for it now i am piecing things together...i need new strut mounts, want new shocks/struts, want the eibach pro kit, want a 3rd gen z28 rearend, want LCAs, Want Panhard bar, and finally c5 brakes...then I want to paint it. I'm going Air Force so hopefully I'll get the LS1 I've always wanted...I don't mind spending the money, I'm just not patient enough!
On the Spohn Site they have some Tokico's...

Yes, deffinetly call Sam Strano about parts. Fair prices and very knowledgable about F body suspension. I bought a bunch of stuff from him and will be buying a bunch more. If street fun is the plan shocks, sway bars, wonder bar, rear diff., springs, LCA RLB's, and PHB would be my order of importance. I have not tried an STB yet so I am not sure where to put that. Also I have not added RLB's yet but they are obviously (to me) needed. I have an adjustable PHB but have it set at the stock length and the rear is damn close to centered (car is 27" at wheel well). When I autocross I get the same rub on each side and there is no visible difference. I did find that having the rodends was a handling improvment though.
