Eibachs...Which Ones???

Ok Ok Ok now I'm lowering my car...I want the Eibachs. I originally planned on the pro kit just to give it a nice little drop...but then i heard that the sportlines would be better for a drop. Mainly bc the springs i have on there now are stock and they are the original ones as well. I hear that over the years they may have settled and that the car could be sitting as low as the pro kit would make it. Wow that sounds confusing...anyway anyone have any suggestions?

I would suggest doing a search next time, this topic was brought up just a day or two ago. Anyhow, the sportlie springs have an advertized drop of 2 inces for the third gen, where as the pro-line have an advertized drop of only one inch. As I recall reading, the springs have similar handling characteristics. I would imagine that the sportlines would be a bit stiffer due to the larger drop. Hope this helps,

Depends on the roads on where u live and what your ultimatel going for.

If roads are smooth and nice, that is the only way I would consider the sportlines personally.

I tend to prefer the Pro-kit, and the accompanying 1 inchish or so drop along with something nice like Bilsteins(never did these until the latest car and wouldnt do anything else in the future:-))

I do question some people complaining about not getting a drop due to old springs. I have used these springs on various F and G body apps and have seen rougly a .75 to 1.1 inch drop when measured fender to wheel on all apps. Just cleans up that ugly fender gap.

Might be an issue with cars that originally didnt have the good suspensions to begin with(all of mine were on performance variants), not saying it doesnt exist, just saying I havent seen it on quite a few cars now. (I'll excluded pounded out high like 200k+ cars as I have done it on 130k vehicles)

later

Kat & I installed the Pro-kit with Bilstein shocks for lowed cars and it still dropped a bit as compared to the 170,000 mile stock springs that we replaced.

I've got the sportlines on my 86' Z28 with stock struts and shocks . I LOVE them (the sportlines that is ). They make the car look low, and best of all, it handles a million times better. There is nothing like a mod that you can see and feel a MAJOR difference.

Like 3.8TransAM said, it depends on your roads. Your gonna feel the bumps. But personally for me, at the age of 18, I want to feel that. My z28 isn't my daily driver, so therefore, when I get in it, I really want to feel like I'm in a car that can handle well. I don't want it to feel like my daily driver, I want to notice a huge difference. You get my drift?

Definetly get the drift...I'm just wondering which I should get because this is my daily driver. i'm upgrading to shocks and struts to tokicos illuminas so i'm hopeing that will help dampen the roughness of the ride...i dunno yet...i don't wanna go too low because my after market y pipe hangs kinda low as is...I really do appreciate the help tho!

Yeah I have a hooker y pipe. I believe the lowest thing on the car now is the air-dam. With 16" IROC rims I can barely clear a pop can that is on it's side, (with the air-dam). With 15" Z28/RS rims you will push a pop can on it's side. You just have to take inclines on an angle and take your time.

Personally, I'd go with the sportlines. It's only a 265 dollar investment, worse case, if you don't like them, take em out, sell them or trade them for someone with a prokit. Someone might be up for that?

3.8Transam,

How do you like the ride of the pro-kit with the Bilstien's?( as much feedback as you're williing to give, I want to know before I part with the $$)

I am considering this set up, and would like to know if it is much harsher than stock, or if it is a improvemnt.

Do you think Koni yellow's would be a better choice for the pro-kit?

Thanks

If they said the Pro-Kit rode horrible i would have to guess they used cheap or old struts and shocks. For example: I had Hotchkis Springs with KYB Shocks/Struts(cheap but better than stock), made for a very bouncy ride. Felt like a lowrider truck. I changed to Bilstein shocks and struts and it rode like a completely different car. Still firm but not bouncy. I have no experience with Eibach but with the hotchkis springs it was the shocks/struts that made the difference in them.
