Hahaaa...It's true. I can't wait to finish my drift Camaro. It's gonna take forever, but it'll be a blast when I'm through. T-62+T-56=

Re: drift car

Hello, I did drift my 87 Trans am quite some until they closed our local airport for car events.
so here's what i did on a budget. I started with a stock 305 TPI and a Th700R4 first thing it went prety hot during 15 minute stitns, so i went for a welded aluminum stock replacement summit Radiator, no more cooling issues after that.
Next bad thing was the lsd, since I ran a 9-bolt rear, the only option back then were replacement cones from downunder... 1 day of drifting and they were toast again...
With no other rearend on hand, I tried something exotic but cheap. I ordered a lock right locker from richmont gear for a forth gen f-body, they have same spline as the 9-bolt has, whith just two spacer rings this unit fits right in the 9-bolt's carrier.
And it works great for drifting. This thing goes into a turn without any friction, and most important whitout the understeer, common whith friction or even worse, welded diff's. So when turned in it needs just a little kik on the throtle and it locks up instantly and let you drift like a king. Oh, I replaced the the sock crap wheel bearings with twin groove ball bearings.
More steering angle is prety easy. Remove an open the stock steering gear, (you want the quick ration 1LE unit, about 2-1/4 turns, stop to stop) there ist spacer pressed into the housing where the steering shaft goes in, as well as as cast on travel stop on the inside of the front round aluminum cover. punch out the ring and saw off the stop on the cover. Will take about 2 hours, costs nothing and gives an unbelivable steering angle.
Next i went for mor power and swaped in a 350 TPI with a T5 and a 7.25" triple disc used nascar clutch. That litle clutch made the otherwise stock 350 rev like a motorcycle and freed about 50hp , couldn't belive but the dyno showed that.
But to be honest, skip the t5, it won't last long, go for a t56.
For suspension, go as low as practical, get the bigest, heavyest rear sway bar posible, and make it adjustable. use rod ends instead of rubber or urethane end links.
I tried a lot of setting up front. my best setup is prety different from what most other drifters used. its just 0.5 degress negative camber and about 1 deg. caster.
You'll need ball joints whith low friction to run this setup, otherwise your steering wheel won't turn back to center by itself.
