4x4 Firebird

I am building a v8 for my v6 powered 92 firebird vert. I need to put new springs in the front during my front end rebuild. If I go ahead and put the heavier v8 springs in now before I swap the engine, is it gonna look like a 4x4 in the front end? Who makes progressive rate springs, as I assume these would not affect the ride heigth as much.

Regardless if it is a progressive rate or linear rate spring, it won't matter. You should only use a V8 spring if the car has a V8. Otherwise your car WILL look like a clown car. Keep the V6 springs in your car until you' ve swapped in the V8.

Just curious why would you swap the springs first?

I am going to be changing ball joints and A-arm bushings, so I will have the springs out anyway. I need to get an alignment afterwards. I figure I would have to have it re-aligned if I changed the springs later. Just trying to be effecient.

I understand why you'd want to do it at that time. It would make sense if you had the V8 ready to swap in. Can you hold off on the front end rebuild until the V8 is ready to swap into the car?

Yeah I might wait until then to do it all. I'm just getting cabin fever this time of year wanting to do the work that I have parts for now. I probably will have to take the A-arms loose again anyhow to relocate the engine mounts on the frame. I know it can be done without removing them but that requires a lot more patience and rubber fingers. Thanks for your help guys.

I dont think any aftermarket company makes progressive front springs for a thirdgen. And it wouldnt really affect the ride height, only the quality and the way it acts.

In any event, do yourself a favor and keep the V6 springs for the V6.

We kept the V6 springs in my GF's car when we did her 350 TPI swap. Car handeled very well. I said heck with it and reused them. Heres some pics of it with the 350 and V6 springs.

Looks great to me. Man, what does your GF do to you to make you want to do all that work to her car.
