Strange Noise
Alright on the gf's '89 RS we have a wierd noise. Car had been sitting for over 2 years and weve thrown tons of new parts at it to "try" to get it passed for emmision/inspection tommaro. Well tonight i went ahead and put 4 new tires on it, as the old ones were shot. It was making a wierd thumping/rolling noise which i had thought had just been flat spots from the tires sitting so long. Well after putting the new tires on tonight it has not gone away. It gets louder and faster the higher speed you get. In neutral it makes the same noise so that leads me to beilive its not engine/tranny related. Its coming from the front of the car almost directly under the gas/brake pedals. Sounds more on the left side front then the right side front. I just wanted to see if you guys have any ideas, then its off to jacking up the car on all 4s and watching it go through gears in the air.

It's gotta be a bad CV joint...
JK, I'm not sure. There is nothing under your feet that is related to raod speed. If the noise wasn't coming from the front I'd suspect a driveshaft problem. I guess I would look at suspension components. Check the wheels for play, etc. Maybe double check some of the work you've done. Brakes can make that noise too.
I eliminated loose lugnuts and wheel balance issues cause you just had your tires changed. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful. Let us know what you find.
